For a first of a kind, due to the covid pandemic cancelling the Royal Isle of Wight County Show for the second year, organisers put together a smaller covid-secure event, IW Country Fair, and have donated £200 towards Newport Carnival.
Some of the Newport Carnival volunteers were at the Isle of Wight Country Fair over the bank holiday weekend assisting with the parking of cars.
Due to the event being a pre-booked system, booked attendees arrived relatively early in the morning and in their masses.
Graham Biss, the organiser of the event, had given us permission to collect money in our collection buckets throughout the day.
However, due to the event being so popular, we just didn’t have time, nor did we want to hassle too many people on this first event of its kind at the showground.
To Newport Carnival’s surprise, Graham Biss handed a cheque over to the association of £200 to go towards making 2022, Newport’s 100th anniversary, one to remember.
Paddy McHugh, Newport Carnival’s Event Organiser said:
“We at Newport Carnival would like to thank Royal Isle of Wight County Show’s Graham Biss and the whole team for the very kind donation of £200.
“We aimed to collect using our buckets on Sunday but due to the great success and the cars coming in nicely we were too busy to be able to collect.
“This will help us to bring you a great 100th birthday carnival in 2022.”
